I ran across something this week that I have to share.
2 Kings 2.9:
Elijah is about to be taken up into heaven–the man who has spent his life urging Israel to turn from their idolatry and promiscuity with the nations back to God. He knows the end of his life is nearing and he is trying so hard to shake his mentee, Elisha, away. "Stay here," he says repeatedly.
"No, I'm coming with you," Elisha insists.
As they approach the Jordan, Elijah parts the waters with his cloak–his last miracle–and then turns to his young apprentice and says, "Tell me what I can do for you."
Elisha replied, "Please, let me inherit two shares of your spirit."
Two shares. A double-portion. A first-born son's inheritance.
